 Conversations that Matter Event

Collaboration • Controversy • Change • Cost realistic

WHEN AND WHERE?

19TH November 2008 from 13.30 to 18.00 in Central London

THREE THEMES

  1. What identifies and therefore defines a Social Enterprise as different from other forms of organisation
  2. How can Social Enterprises contribute to the social, economic and environmental life of the UK?
  3.  What forms of collaboration would be valuable within the Social Enterprise arena in the UK?

WHAT IS A CONVERSATION THAT MATTERS?

A Conversation That Matters differs from traditional debate and discussion experienced at conferences and seminars in that:-

·       There are no speeches or papers – everyone engages in conversation

·       It tackles topics to which there are no easy answers

·       There are no rights or wrongs, only differing perspectives

·       The variety of conversationalists result in a cross-fertilisation of ideas

·       Conditions are created to stimulate collaborations

·       People listen to learn rather than listen to compete and correct

·       Conversations happen in small groups of 4 to 5 with rotation between tables to enrich knowledge and experience

·       Selling is banned

WHY ATTEND?

If you are interested in the following then you should attend:-

·       Having the ability to hold unfiltered, structured conversations with others at the grass roots level

·       Interested in forging strong links with others in the Social Enterprise arena

·       If you want to talk about Social enterprise at a level that is important to you

·       Experiencing an environment for stimulating and challenging your thoughts and assumptions

Opportunity to be totally authentic in conversation rather than representative of your position and organisation

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

·            Individuals running or closely engaged with social enterprises

·            Members of the voluntary sector considering setting up social enterprises

·            National and local government officials with an interest in social enterprise and the third sector

·            If your organisation is likely to interface with social enterprises and you want to know what makes them tick

·            If you are interested in where social enterprises fit into the structure of business within the UK

·            Academics with an interest in the third sector

·            Anyone considering setting up a social enterprise

·            Investors with an interest in social investing

DO NOT ATTEND IF YOU

·       Want quick answers

·       Want to sell your products or services

·       Expect special treatment because of your position or organisation

·       Are unwilling to change your point of view

·       Seek always to criticise rather than to build

·       Like to talk rather than to listen

·       Cannot commit the time or energy to be in the whole conversation from 13.30 to 18.00
